FIRST TIME MOMMIES - WHAT TO PACK INTO YOUR HOSPITAL BAG

 

Hello gorgeous Mama,

Where do we begin? You’re pregnant! Congratulations.

You’re in a miraculous season of your life as you baby is growing and developing in your magnificent womb. Pregnancy expands us not just physically but emotionally and spiritually too.

When you first start packing it might simply feel like something you need to check of your to-do list, but soon the process of packing is likely to make it all start to feel very real and spark one of those “Wow! I can believe this is really happening!” moments. Whether you’re a natural planner and organiser, or a last minute, panic-packer type, preparing your hospital bag ahead of time will help you fell in control and calm when the time comes.  

If you are reading this post, then you are probably nearing the last few weeks of your pregnancy. Or you are just a super organised mom-to-be. Either way here is a comprehensive list of everything you need to pack into your hospital bag for mom and baby.

 HOSPITAL CHECKLIST

Mom

  • Lightweight, front open cotton pajamas (one set per day)
  • Three feeding bras
  • Underwear
  • Maternity pads
  • Breast pads
  • Breast pump
  • Breast feeding cover
  • Slippers & socks
  • Flip flops (for shower purposes)
  • Gown
  • Toiletries
  • Cosmetics (if make-up is part of your usual routine)
  • Nipple cream
  • Mirror
  • Hairdryer, brush, hair tie
  • Glasses and/or contact lenses
  • Black pen & copies of ID documents of both parents (for birth registration), medical aid card
  • Set of clothes and shoes for going home
  • Two facecloths (preferably dark colours)
  • Fluffy Towel
  • Pillow (hospital ones just aren’t as comfy)
  • Plastic bags (for soiled clothes)
  • All chronic medication, pregnancy vitamins, etc
  • Cellular phone, charger & double adapter
  • Money
  • Camera and charger
  • Lip balm
  • Energy sweets
  • Fruit juice, water,
  • Magazines, games, books

Baby

  • Five sets of clean clothes; vests, onesies, receiving blanket/swaddle, socks, beanie
  • Going home outfit
  • Burp clothes
  • One warm blanket
  • Bottles, teats, formula milk, sterilising unit (this is if you will be bottle feeding)
  • Nappies
  • Wipes
  • Facecloth
  • Dummy and holder
  • Car Seat
  • Gift to sibling from baby (optional)
